Grover Dukes

A Memorial Service for Walter Grover Dukes, 79, of Neeses, SC will be held at two o’clock p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Neeses United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jay Fanning officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26th from 5 to 7 PM at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. Memorial contributions may be given in Grover’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 200 Center Point Circle #100, Columbia, SC 29210. Grover passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Born in Neeses, SC, he was a son of the late Walter Tiller Dukes and Mary Ellen Toole Dukes and was married to the late Susan Diane Keitt Dukes. He was a self-employed businessman who worked in construction, welding and did pond work. He loved spending time with his grandson and they both enjoyed fishing in his pond. He also enjoyed farming and going to auctions to see what kind of “deals” he could find. He was a jack-of-all trades and could fix most anything and for a few years he ran a sawmill. Grover was a great conversationalist, he could strike up a conversation wherever life took him; he never met a stranger. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his son, John Dukes (Heather) of Neeses; a grandson, Hunter Blake Dukes; sister, Edith Amelia Dukes Turner; a brother, Donald Ray (Dianne) Dukes; a number of nieces and nephews; cousins, Nancy Hebert, Alton Corbett, Ida Louise Hill and other cousins who he dearly loved. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Diane Keitt Dukes and a sister, Dorothy Faye Dukes Cooper.
