A Memorial Service for Betty Scott Thompson, 87, of Williston, SC will be held at eleven a.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Windsor, SC. The family will receive friends after the service at the church on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be given to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 4384 Williston Road, Windsor, SC 29856, SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken, SC 29801 or to The Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Betty passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
Born in the White Pond Community of Aiken County, she was the daughter of the late Hiram Lecroy Scott and Iris Coggins Scott and was married to the late William Francis “Tomp” Thompson. Betty lived a full and happy life with her husband of 66 years and her family. Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and operator of several businesses; The Electric Shop in Williston, Edisto Marina on Edisto Island, SC and Folly Marina, Folly Beach, SC. Betty and Tomp loved to travel and took the family on many vacations through the entire U.S. Betty was always very active in her Church. She taught Sunday school, Training Union and GA’s for many years. She was active in Civil Defense in the 1950’s and was a Ham radio operator that had friends all over the world. She enjoyed Fishing, Gardening, Traveling, Family History and Geneology and loved the daily rides through the woods with her four legged companion Mitty.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Gayle (Bobby) Birt of Willison and Susan (Ron) Hill of Charleston; her grandchildren Susan Birt, Michael (Kim Corbett) Birt and John Russell; a niece and several nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Scott.

I am just finding out about Miss Betty. I am heartbroken. Miss Betty was the sweetest lady and we hugged on Sundays when I could get to church. She always spoke to me and my grandchildren.

I met Betty Jane many years ago, and we have been friends since. She was a true lady and a saint in every sense of the word. My sympathies and love are extended to her family.
